The Best Candle Burning Tips

Why is my candle not burning to the edge? Why is my candle all black? Why is my candle flame so high? We've all been there, and it can be a very frustrating place. But don't fret! Because we have some awesome answers and advice below!

The expert advice below is specifically for your Tabor + Olive candles. Every candle we offer is hand-poured, tested, tried and true. We don't just test the first burn. We burn our candles all the way down to the very last drop to ensure quality before offering them to our customers. We hope the tips below guide you into getting the most out of your luxury candles:

Helping your candle burn to its potential is a delicate balance of leaving it alone and keeping an eye on it.

1. Trim your wicks prior to every re-lighting! This is the most crucial step in allowing your candle to burn optimally. When you receive your Tabor + Olive candles, the wicks are already trimmed to the appropriate length and do not need to be trimmed when you first burn them.

•Trimming wicks before each burn thereafter prevents smoke(soot) from the wick being too long and your candle getting all black. Which can also result in a fire. If you trim the wicks and notice the flame is still too high, blow it out and trim it a little more. But be careful not to trim too much off or your candle wicks will struggle staying lit. Which will result in tunneling, and leads us to step #2:

2. Keep your candle lit until an even pool of liquid wax develops! It’s crucial that your candle turns completely liquid across the surface EVERY time you burn it. The very first burn is usually between 3-4 hours. Please make sure you can settle in with it for as long as it takes to burn across the surface.

3. Candles should not be blown out before it turns liquid all around, or it will create tunneling and your wicks will drown in the wax struggling to stay lit which will often result in a wasted candle and poor scent throw.

4. Blow your candle out once it has turned all liquid! Continuing to burn your candle after it has turned all liquid sets your candle up to burn way too hot which can create a dangerous flame with a lot of soot and is at risk of causing a fire.

Please Note: You may notice our wicks leaning while burning. Because our wicks are 100% cotton & non-toxic, there is no lead/zinc core to keep them upright while burning. This is totally normal to see them leaning:

•Once the candle has melted to the edge, blow out the candle then use a toothpick to re-center the wick before the wax solidifies. Very simple fix if it happens.
